This year’s TopWrite places have all now been allocated.
If you are interested in the scheme, you may still apply; if approved, your application will be added to a waiting list, to be contacted should a place become available.
What does TopWrite offer?
TopWrite offers a place at the Swanwick Writers’ Summer School 2017 for just £100 (normal price £565).
The Summer School is a fantastic opportunity for aspiring young writers, where you will find a wealth of classes, courses and workshops, plus as much supportive conversation and feedback as you have energy for. As well as the programme of events, the experience of spending a week surrounded by writers has often been picked out by past TopWriters as particularly valuable. At Swanwick, your writing career can be changed in a moment by a chat with a stranger over coffee…
What do I need to do?
Download the application form and guidelines below. You’ll need to demonstrate your commitment to writing and explain your reasons for believing that the TopWrite scheme is right for you. You’ll also need to convince a reliable acquaintance to vouch for you: see the application guidelines for more details.
Upon receipt of your form, we will determine your eligibility and, if convinced of the value of the scheme to you, will offer you a place, as long as places remain available. In return, we’ll ask you to provide some feedback on the experience at the end of the course, in order to help us to improve how we run it in future.
What’s the deadline?
30 June 2017. Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis, so apply as early as you can.
Here's what TopWriters had to say about Swanwick:
"Breakfast was scrambled eggs served on a plateful of ideas. Lunch was inspiration and chats with published authors. Tea time was cake and publishing tips. Dinner was generous advice with lashings of encouragement. I went to Swanwick not really believing I could ever be a 'proper' writer. I left with a potential new book and a brain buzzing with ideas. Thank you Swanwick for a week that transformed me."
- Sangeeta Pillai-Lander
"My first Swanwick was life-changing. Without it I wouldn't be where I am today - having a career in writing. Swanwick has helped me not only with the art and craft of writing, but it has also given me opportunities to network with various gatekeepers in the industry, which have opened doors to exciting ventures. Having experienced the magic of Swanwick, I've been coming back year after year. It turns out: Swanwick is for life, not just for the TopWrite year!"
- Dr Tarja Moles
