We are delighted to have Della Galton as our Monday evening speaker. She has been a regular – and highly popular – course leader at Swanwick over the years.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming Della to Swanwick! Della Galton is a novelist, short story writer and journalist, and her new book The Morning After The Life Before was published earlier this month. Della says, “The book is about SJ, who is a recovering alcoholic, and her struggle to cope with the mounting problems in her life without returning to her old friend, alcohol. Think Bridget Jones with booze – actually, think Bridget Jones with more booze!
“It’s the sequel to my novel, Ice and a Slice and I wrote it because I was touched beyond words by the emails I received from people who had their own drink problem and said it had changed their lives. It’s a subject very close to my heart. My family has alcoholism running through it and I wanted to portray if I could the other side of the coin. And I wanted to do it with humour and with love.” Find out more about Della As a change from our normal Q&A with writers, agents and editors, we’re celebrating the opening of bookings for Swanwick 2015, with a special “Swanwick Magic” #AskSwanwick chat. We’ll be talking to previous attendees (Swanwickers, as we colloquially call them) about their fondest memories, tricks of the trade they’ve learnt at the Summer School, successes that have come from the school and best tips for surviving the week. We’ll also be answering questions from Swanwick ‘virgins’, sharing what you might get from attending the world’s longest running residential conference for writers. If you’re a writer in the UK, Europe or beyond, come join our #AskSwanwick Twitter chat on Tuesday 10 March, 8pm (UK Time) and find out what makes Swanwick magic for writers!
Just search for the hashtag #AskSwanwick on Tuesday 10 March at 8pm (UK Time) – making sure you follow 'all' not just 'top' search results. To ask a question, tweet using the #AskSwanwick hashtag followed by your question. You can find an easy guide on how to follow and tweet-etiquette here. Selected highlights of each session are available on the Swanwick website a few weeks after each chat – but nothing beats following it in person at the time and asking questions! Best wishes, Benjamin, Karin, Andrew and Mike (The Twitter Team)
Before joining Manning Publications where she handles ebook as well as paperback marketing, Candace has worked for such prestigious companies as Readers Digest, Dorling Kindersley and Warner Trade Publishing, to name but a few. You can find out more about her here.
