Join Jen Campbell for the next #AskSwanwick tweet chat at 7.30pm (BST) on Friday 10 October.

Jen works part-time at an antiquarian bookshop. Her first book, Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops, was published in 2012 and was a Sunday Times Bestseller. The sequel, More Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops, was released in last year. Here’s a glimpse into the kinds of things you can find her books:

Customer: My friend texted me saying I should get hold of a book called ‘Damn you, Automobile!' because it's supposed to be very funny… but I can't find it.
Bookseller: I think she meant ‘Damn You, Autocorrect!’ …and that’s possibly the most ironic text message of all time.
Jen’s new non-fiction book The Bookshop Book will be published October 2014 and is the official book of the 2014 Books Are My Bag campaign. Jen is also an award-winning poet and short story writer. Her poetry pamphlet The Hungry Ghost Festival was published by The Rialto.

To follow and join the tweet chat, type #AskSwanwick into the search box on Twitter and select ‘All’ (not ‘Top’). Then join in and put your questions to Jen, not forgetting the #AskSwanwick hashtag so that everyone following can see your question. You can find out more about the Twitter chat etiquette here.

#AskSwanwick tweet chat with Sue Moorcroft

25/9/2014

Sue Moorcroft has had a busy summer with her work as a tutor on writing courses and with the publication of her latest romantic novel The Wedding Proposal. But she kindly made time to face a barrage of questions for the September #AskSwanwick tweet chat. Twitter favours the short and snappy question and response, but over the course of an hour we were treated to a number of valuable insights into how one writer goes about her craft.

For those who could not follow the chat at the time, or who ‘don’t do Twitter’, here are some of the questions and answers.

Why Swanwick is so magical

If you've ever wondered what makes Swanwick so magical, here are some thoughts from a few of this year's speakers:

"I feel I am now a Swanwickian (does that sound too Dickens?) When you have a gap, please invite me again. I felt at home."
Christopher Lee, opening night speaker 2014

"I want to thank you for inviting me to take part in Swanwick 66, which was fun and very rewarding. I thoroughly enjoyed my whirlwind visit and meeting so many writers."
Shirley Blair, Commissioning Fiction Editor of The People's Friend, evening guest speaker 2014

"I arrived home exhausted but fizzing like champagne and aglow with the happiest of memories. Thank you so much, and all those who pampered me like a queen. So much love in the air, so healing. I could feel my beloved Deric close by."
Aileen Armitage, evening guest speaker 2014

"It’s so very easy to teach and speak at Swanwick because it’s not a gig, nor an event, it’s a chat amongst friends, as simple as that. The warmth and togetherness makes it the easiest place a writer could ever 'work' (because it never feels like work, I can promise you.)"
Simon Hall, guest speaker and tutor 2014
