2022 ​One-to-One Specialist Sessions


  • Choose from the list before booking your place.
  • Sessions can be booked separately but not before securing your place.
  • ​Only one session per tutor can be booked. Any request for multiple sessions with the same tutor will be recorded and awarded subject to availability after June 30th.
  • Refunds will be given should your request be unfulfilled, or you can choose another available tutor..

Sue Moorcroft - Romantic Fiction

​Award-winning author Sue Moorcroft is a Sunday Times bestseller, her novels are available worldwide, and she’s well-published in short stories, serials, articles and writing ‘how to’. As a creative writing tutor, Sue has worked for the London School of Journalism, University of Leicester, Writers’ News Home Study, Adult Education Northants, Writers’ Holiday Caerleon, WriteStars, Writing School Nottingham, Writing School Leicester, at conferences in several countries, libraries, writing groups and, of course, Swanwick Summer School. She wrote two of the London School of Journalism’s distance-learning courses, one for DigitalSea, and the writing guide, Love Writing.

Simon Whaley - Non-fiction articles, books (traditionally published and self-published)

Simon Whaley is the author of over a dozen non-fiction books, including the bestselling One Hundred Ways For A Dog To Train Its Human. His articles have been published in BBC Countryfile, Country Walking, The Simple Things, Britain, The Countryman, The People’s Friend, This England and many more. He also writes The Business of Writing column in Writing Magazine.

Neil Zoladkiewicz – The Art of Scriptwriting
For over 30 years, Neil has taught Drama and directed over 50 productions at his secondary school, and gave Drama courses for teachers with Creative Education. Many of his own adaptations and new plays have been presented in Budapest - The Sea Serpent has been translated into Hungarian and is in development at the Kolibri Theatre. Several of his short plays for young people have been published. He is currently developing Will and Juliet, a play about Shakespeare's acting company, and working on a novel, Driftwood.

Vivien Brown – Your First Novel
Vivien Brown is the author of seven published novels and over 150 short stories for the women’s magazine market. She is a reader for the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s New Writers Scheme and heads up the Manuscript Appraisals team for the Society of Women Writers and Journalists. She is happy to look at a synopsis and opening pages for first-time novelists, particularly in the women’s fiction or romance/saga genres, with a view to offering a constructive critique, editing guidance and general advice on getting published.

Esther Chilton - Short Stories, Competition Entries, Novel Writing and Non-Fiction

Esther has been a writing tutor for The Writers Bureau distance learning college for the past thirteen years. As well as winning several writing competitions herself, she is also Head Judge of Writers’ Forum magazine’s monthly short story competition. Esther has recently become a contributor for Jericho Writers and regularly has articles and short stories published in a variety of newspapers and magazines in the UK and abroad, ranging from The Guardian, to The People’s Friend, to Evergreen, to Your Cat. She has her own editing business, and works with writers on a wide variety of genres.

Alison Chisholm – Poetry

​Alison Chisholm has been involved in poetry all her adult life, teaching speech and drama with an emphasis on delivering poetry, and writing poems which have appeared on radio and TV and in magazines, anthologies and twelve collections, as well as seven books on the craft of writing poetry. She gives readings, workshops and courses in Britain and overseas, delivers critiques and surgeries for the Poetry Society, and runs online courses via the Writers Bureau, adjudicates competitions and is a poetry columnist for Writing Magazine.

Ingrid Jendrzejewski – Flash Fiction, Short Stories, Poetry, Creative Non-Fiction,
​Hybrid Work, and Competition Entries

Ingrid has published over 100 pieces since she started submitting in 2014 and has won around 20 writing competitions. She has judged multiple competitions, including for Mslexia, Flash500 and National Flash Fiction Day. She is currently editor-in-chief at FlashBack Fiction and Co-Director of National Flash Fiction Day.

Anita Belli: Writing and Publishing Women's Fiction
Anita writes books about love, war, art and families and has 5 novels both traditionally and independently published. She is currently writing a Literary Fiction novel with support from Arts Council England. As a creative writing tutor, Anita has published 4 books to accompany her workshops series. She is a judge on two short story competitions and has supported ten books from community writers into publication, including three books of stories and poems by children. She has set up an online writing school and continues to work with communities to share her love of writing and publishing.

Gerald Hornsby - Story Creation and Structure, Genre Flash Fiction and Crime & Thriller Novels
Gerald has written and independently published two short fiction collections, four thriller novels under the pseudonym Jack Warwick, and a series of three cosy crime novels under his own name. He is keen to share his knowledge and experience, and for over ten years has been helping other writers to create their work and get it published. He has written five non-fiction books and produced several online courses, and has delivered writing workshops at Swanwick, Jericho Writers, Frinton Writers, and other writing groups.

Roy McFarlane - What’s love got to do with it
​Roy McFarlane is a Poet, Playwright, former Youth & Community Worker born in Birmingham of Jamaican parentage. He’s the National Canal Laureate and former Birmingham Poet Laureate and has an MA in Writing Poetry with Newcastle University. Writing poetry about love can be like cupid shooting arrows randomly and not quite hitting the mark, but how can we make poems hit the emotional bull's eye. Rob Gee - Cutting Edge Comedy/Writing About Mental Health
Comic, stand-up poet and reformed mental health nurse, Rob has shared stages with Sue Townsend, Jo Brand, Russell Howard, Sarah Millican and Frankie Boyle. He’s written numerous comedy songs, sketches and shows for commission and won over twenty awards for his solo shows, including Best Solo Comedy at the Orlando and Buxton Fringe Festivals. Rob can help you sharpen your comedy writing.
 
Having worked for sixteen years as a mental health nurse around the UK and Australia, mainly in acute psychiatry, he has also worked in child and adolescent units, drug and alcohol services, eating disorders, early psychosis intervention and psychiatric intensive care. Now a full-time writer and performer, he’s won over twenty awards for his solo shows and is lead artist for the Comedy Asylum,  shows written and performed by people receiving mental health treatment. Rob can help you write about mental health in a way that is accurate and engaging.
