PAGE to STAGE
PAGE TO STAGE is the Writers’ Summer School 'play in three days', where we take a short script (submitted by a delegate and selected in advance), cast it, add a director, and then perform a 'Rehearsed Reading' on the evening of the third day as part of our EVENING ENTERTAINMENT programme. If you love script writing, characterisation, collaboration and performing, then you’ll love Page to Stage!
The submissions window for the 2027 school opens on 1st March. The deadline for submissions is 30th April.

WRITE
Delegates are invited to write and submit a short play of five minutes.
Six plays (three Comedy and three Drama) are then chosen by an independent panel of judges (see below for information on the selection panel)
The chosen plays are announced at the beginning of July, and the successful playwrights will be expected to bring copies of their scripts, and any props required, to the School in August.
SCRIPT TIPS & FORMATTING GUIDE
CAST & REHEARSE
If you have never acted before, but have always fancied having a go - this is your opportunity!
At the start of the School week we invite delegates to step up and volunteer to form miniature Companies to act and direct the plays.
The plays are further developed during three days of reading, refining and rehearsing during the school week, ready for performing.
PERFORM
On the evening of the third day, all six plays become part of our EVENING ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAMME.
Each little Company performs a “Rehearsed Reading” (no-one has to learn any lines!) live to the audience of fellow delegates.
At the end of the performances, everyone gets to vote for their favourites.
WIN AWARDS
There are awards in the following categories:
BEST COMEDY
BEST DRAMA
BEST ACTOR COMEDY
BEST ACTOR DRAMA
BEST PLAY - as judged by the selection panel (see below)
Winners are announced during the final evening Farewell Event and each winner receives one of our coveted 'Swannie Awards'.

We would like to thank our independent panel of judges who again for 2026 have given their time and experience to help us by selecting the scripts that will be performed in August. The Manuscript Mavericks are members of the Gravesend and District Theatre, who meet once a month to read plays:
'We have been meeting since February 2024 and in that time have read classic and contemporary plays, some of which may be added to our programme in the future.
The Theatre Guild was formed in 1948, when the various small amateur drama groups in the area created a central body for support and mutual benefit, bringing the best talent and raising the standard of productions. We became a registered charity in 2006 and our aim is to be a thriving community theatre, producing a wide-ranging annual programme with a number of productions for our adult and youth members.
